!!!! WELCOME BACK !!!!

The summer break is now over and we are back to training within the normal full schedule, time for a few reminders and information up-date. This autumn, and up to Christmas is going to be a busy and hopefully a successful period for Elmbridge Phoenix S.C. By training well at each session you will improve times and hopefully enjoy success at the various competitions involving this club. Remember to make sure you arrive punctually and are poolside 10minutes before your training session begins.

SUMMER COMPETITION REPORT

Our young swimmers took a very well deserved third place in the Rother League Junior Trophy Gala held at the Basingstoke Leisure centre. The team swam really well, with some outstanding performances from the likes of Sarah Lidbetter, Adam Giambrone, Sebastian Leather, to name just a few.

The club had two swimmers who qualified for the Cheesestrings ASA National Championships held at Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre Sheffield at the end of July. Glen Melson swam brilliantly to 11th place in the boys 11yrs 100mtrs Freestyle in a PB of 1.06.86 and set a second PB in the 200mtrs Freestyle in 2.21.78 secs. In the girls 12 yrs age group Charlotte Hope qualified in 4 freestyle events and set PB’S in all 4 events. The highlights being a well deserved 13th place in the 200 metres in a time of 2.16.51 secs and then took over 9secs off her PB to take 10th place in the 800mtrs in a time of 9.43.80 secs.

Congratulations also go to Graham Potter from Senior BC who won the Surrey Masters 50mtrs freestyle in the recent Surrey County Masters Event at the Herons Leisure Centre, Haslemere. Well done to you all!!!

CLUB SHOP

The club shop will be open as soon as possible; we hope to run the shop on the 1st Sunday of each month starting in October, subject to final discussions with the leisure centre management on the exact location for the shop to operate from. If any members require swim equipment in the meantime you can contact us through the web-site or speak to Bob Hope in the viewing area or in the foyer of the leisure centre.

HELPERS NEEDED

To make Elmbridge Phoenix SC run well we are always in need of volunteers to assist at Little / Big League, Club Championships, Galas. Also and very importantly we need poolside helpers on normal training nights, in addition we would welcome anyone interested in becoming Timekeepers and hopefully progress to become referees and Judges. Any parents or older swimmers maybe, who would like to help us in any way please let us know we will be very pleased to hear from you

We have unfortunately lost the services of Matthew Kelleher who had been producing a monthly news letter. We would like to thank Matthew for his work and also appeal to anyone who has a journalistic talent, and thinks they could help to produce the newsletter for the future please contact any committee member, again we would be pleased to hear from you.

FUND RAISING

Another very important area within the club is the need to raise funds, although we are not a profit making organisation as such there is still a need to keep funds coming in to cover the running costs of the club. We run raffles at each of our Club Championships and all Home Gala’s and would welcome donations from the membership. If you wish to donate please hand your gift to any committee member. We are also looking for a couple of parents who could take over the organisation of collection of prizes and the running of the actual raffles on competition nights. Once again anyone willing to help please let us know. Earlier in the year we had a very successful “Race Night” which was organised in conjunction with The Esher War Memorial Club. Another night is currently being planned and details will follow shortly.

Thank you for taking time to read this newsletter

GOOD LUCK IN THE COMING MONTHS
